Linking words কি, Linking words এর ব্যবহার

Linking words কাকে বলে?

কথা বলার সময় বা কোন কিছু লেখার সময় বাক্যগুলোর ভেতর সঙ্গতি বা যৌক্তিক চলমানতা বজায় রাখার জন্য মাঝে মধ্যে বিভিন্ন ধরনের Word বা Phrase ব্যবহৃত হয়। এ জাতীয় Word বা Phrase  কে Linking Word বলে। 

Link শব্দটির অর্থ হচ্ছে সংযুক্ত করা বা হওয়া। সুতরাং Linking Word হচ্ছে Sentence এ ব্যবহৃত সেই সকল Word যেগুলো Sentence এর দুই বা ততোধিক অংশকে সংযুক্ত করে। Linking word, Sentence এর মধ্যস্থিত দুই বা ততোধিক Word, clause বা Sentence কে সংযুক্ত (join) করে।

Linking word এর আরেক নাম হচ্ছে Conjunction.

Examples: And, but, or, for, so, therefore, that, as if, until, because, so that, when etc.

Linking words কত প্রকার?

Linking Words সাধারণত তিন প্রকার:

যথা:

1. Co-ordinating linking word
2. Sub-ordinating linking word
3. Correlative linking word.

 

Co-ordinating linking word কাকে বলে?

যে সকল linking word দুটি সমজাতীয় word বা Sentence কে যুক্ত করে তাদেরকে Co-ordinating linking word বলে।
Exm:

And, but, or, as well as, nor , for etc.

 

Sub-ordinating linking word কাকে বলে?

যে সকল linking word একটি principal clause এবং এক বা একাধিক sub- ordinate clause কে সংযুক্ত করে, তাদেরকে Sub- ordinating linking word বলে। এই linking word গুলো complex sentence এ ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Exm:

That, unless, though, as, before etc.

 

Correlative linking word কাকে বলে?

পরস্পর অচ্ছেদ্যভাবে সম্পর্কযুক্ত দুটি linking word একটি linking word এ পরিনত হলে তাকে correlative linking word বলে।

*এরা সর্বদা জোড়ায় জোড়ায় ব্যবহৃত হয়। তথা Sentence এ একটি অংশের ব্যবহার হলে অপর অংশটির ব্যবহার অবশ্যম্ভাবী হয়ে ওঠে।

Linking words এর ব্যবহার

 Linking words গঠনের নিয়ম

 

Rule-1:

উদাহরণ প্রমান করতে Linking word হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত Word বা Phrase সমুহ:

যেমন:

• For example 
• For instance
• such as
• Namely
• In other words etc.

 

ex:

a. Many birds are called birds of prey, for example/for instance/ such as/ namely, the eagle, the albatross, the vulture etc.

b. His crazy activities were crossing all limits, in other words he was almost mad.

 

Rule-2:

কারন প্রকাশ করতে ব্যবহৃত Linking words সমুহ:

Since, for, because, as, why, etc.

• Shema could not attend college since/ for/ as she was sick.
• I do not know why Nazrul is absent.

 

Rule-3:

Relative conjunction ‘ that’  ও Linking words হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

যেমন:

• Adnan said that he would go to Dhaka tomorrow.

 

Rule-4:

Linking word হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত Relative pronoun সমুহ:

Who, which, whom, whose, what, whatever, whichever, that etc.

যেমন:

• I know the man who come yesterday.
• This is the book which I want.
• This is the girl whose pen has been lost.
• This is the house that he bought last year.

 

Rule-5:

একই সময়ে দুটি ঘটনা প্রকাশ করার জন্য ব্যবহৃত Linking words সমুহ:

At the same time, at the time, mean while, as.

Ex:

• Nova was eating and talking to her mother at the same time.
• When you rang me, at that time I was sleeping.

 

Rule-6:

জোড়ায় জোড়ায় ব্যবহৃত কিছু Link word সমুহ:

Whether…. or, rather….. than, though…. yet.

 

Rule-7:

কোন কাজের ধরন বা কাজটি কিভাবে করা হয় তা নির্দেশ করতে ব্যবহৃত Linking words সমুহ:

As if/ as though/ how/ however/ like/ as/ as so/ by and by/ as it were/ such….as/ such…. that.

ex:

• This is the way how he talks.
• As I sow, so you reap.
• Work as I support you.

 

Rule-8:

কোন সারসংক্ষেপ বা উপসংহার করতে ব্যবহৃত Linking words সমুহ:

 In brief, In short to sum up/ to summaries on the whole in all/ in total.

ex:

• Liza is studious, sincere and obedient. In short, he is brilliant. 

 

Rule-9: 

কোন কাজের উদ্দেশ্য ও ফলাফল ব্যক্ত করতে ব্যবহৃত Linking words সমুহ:

Lest/ so that/that/ in order that, so… that, as much, as many as.

ex:

• Diba reads seriously lest she might fail.

 

Rule-10:

ঘটনার ক্রম ও ধারাবাহিকতা বোজাতে ব্যবহৃত Linking words সমুহ:

-First/ firstly/ at first/ in the first place/ at the beginning/ in the beginning

-Second/ secondly/ third/ thirdly/ fifth/ fifthly

-In the end/ at the end/ lastly/ at last/ finally/ to sum up/ in conclusion/ to conclude

-Next/ afterwards/ after that/ then

-In between in the middle of.  

 

Rule-11:

পূর্বে যা বলা হয়েছে বা করা হয়েছে তার ফলস্রুতিতে যা দাড়িয়েছে তা প্রকাম করতে ব্যবহৃত Linking words সমুহ: 

So/ therefore/ as a results/ as a consequence/ consequently/ eventually/ this, naturally, hence.

• Palas was  absent from the class as a result he could not bring the home work.

 

Rule-12:

অতিরিক্ত তথ্য প্রদান করতে ব্যবহৃত Linking Words সমুহ:

And/ either… or, neither… nor, Both… and, or, as well as, not only… but also, in addition, besides/ moreover/ furthermore, apart from, too, similarly.

ex:

• Either you or your brother has done this.
• Russell as well as his friend will visit us.

 

Rule-13:

সাদৃশ্যমূলক তুলনা বুঝাতে ব্যবহৃত Linking word হিসাবে Words বা Phrase সমুহ:

Than, in the same way, by for, as… as, so… as

• Rakib is as intelligent as his sister.
• Rana is not so tall as his sister.

 

Rule-14:

বৈসাদৃশ্যমূলক তুলনা বুঝাতে ব্যবহৃত Linking words সমুহ:

In stead, on the contrary/on the other hand/ but/ yet/ still/ while / where as, thought/ although, even thought, even though, despite/ in spite of, however/anyhow, all the same, never the less.

ex: 

• It is all the same whether you go there or not.

 

Rule-15: 

সময় ও স্থান নির্দেশ করতে ব্যবহৃত Linking words সমুহ:

At the same time, where, there, as , when, while, before, after, since, as soon as, some time, at present/presently, now/then/ recently/ once and first time, no sooner had… than, hardly had… when, scarcely had….when.

Ex:

• Helal fell ill and was admitted to hospital. Afterword he died.
• Scarcely had the teacher entered the classroom when the student stood up.
