Clause কাকে বলে?
Clause is, of course, the part of a complete sentence having a subject and Clause is nothing but the part of a sentence.

Clause is a part of a large sentence having a subject and finite verb.

অর্থাৎ একটি simple sentence যখন বৃহত্তর কোন sentence-এর অংশ রূপে ব্যবহৃত হয় তখন একে clauses বলে।
যেমন: He is an honest man.
এটি একটি simple sentence, we know এটি আর একটি simple sentence. We know that he is an honest man.
We know He is an honest man. এখানে We Know এবং He is an honest man simple sentence দুটি that conjunction দ্বারা যুক্ত হয়ে একটি বৃহত্তর Sentence গঠন করেছে। তাই simple sentence দুটি বৃহত্তর sentence – এর clause.

এখানে,
Dr. Sazzad Hossain is a scholar
Who is the head of the Department of English at DIU
Whom we admire most
এই তিনটি খন্ড বাক্যই একটি বড় বাক্যের অংশ ইহাদের প্রত্যেকটি একটি করে clause.
Clause কত প্রকার ও কি কি?
Clause তিন প্রকার।
যথাঃ
- Principal or independent clause.
- Subordinate or dependent clause.
- Co-ordinate clause.
✔️Principal Clause কাকে বলে?
Principal Clause: যে clause অর্থ প্রকাশের জন্য অন্য clause-এর উপর নির্ভর করে না তাকে Principal clause বলে। Principle Clause কে মূলত sentence থেকে আলাদা করলেও এটি স্বাধীনভাবে অর্থ প্রকাশ করতে পারে ।
যেমন:
- I have a book which is very informative.
উপরের বাক্যটিতে, I have a book অংশটি হল principal clause. কারণ এটিকে বাকা থেকে আলাদা করলেও এটি স্বাধীনভাবে অর্থ প্রকাশ করতে পারে।
যেমন:
- I have a book.
আমার একটি বই আছে
✔️Subordinate Clause কাকে বলে?
Subordinate Clause: যে clause, principal clause -এর সাহায্য ছাড়া নিজে অর্থ প্রকাশ করতে পারে না তাকে Subordinate Clause বলে।
যেমন:
- He plays football when he gets time.
উপরের বাকো He plays football. অংশটি principal clause, কারণ এটি স্বাধীনভাবে অর্থ প্রকাশ করতে পারে।
কিন্তু when he gets time (যখন সে সময় পায়) অংশটি স্বাধীনভাবে অর্থ প্রকাশ করতে পারে না। এই অংশটি অর্থ প্রকাশের জন্য principal clause-এর উপর নির্ভরশীল। তাই এটি subordinate clause.
✔️Co-ordinate Clause কাকে বলে?
Co-ordinate Clause: যখন দুই বা ততোধিক Principal clause কোন coordinating Conjunction দ্বারা যুক্ত হয় তখন তাকে Co-ordinate clause বলে।
যেমন:
- I wrote a letter to him but he didn’t reply.
ব্যাখ্যাঃ এখানে I wrote a letter to him এবং he did not reply এই দুইটি Principle Clause `but’ conjunction দ্বারা যুক্ত হয়েছে।
👉Note: And, both- and, also, too, as well as, no less than, not only but also, now, well, either —– or. neither —–nor, otherwise, else, or, but, still, yet, nevertheless, however, whereas, while, only, therefore, so, so then যেমন ইত্যাদি Co-ordinating conjunction হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
➡️Sub-ordinate Clauses কত প্রকার?
Sub-ordinate Clauses কে আবার তিন ভাগে ভাগ করা যায়।
যেমনঃ
- Noun clause
- Adjective clause
- Adverbial clause.
Noun Clause-এর ব্যবহার বিধি নিচে দেওয়া হলঃ
👉Noun clause-verb এর subject হিসেবে কাজ করে ।
যেমন:
- Where he lives is unknown to us.
- When he will start the work is uncertain.
👉Noun Clause, verb-এর object হিসেবে কাজ করে।
যেমন:
- I know why he has done it.
- Nobody knows when he will come back.
👉Noun Clause, Preposition-এর object হিসেবে কাজ করে।
যেমন:
- Pay attention to what I say.
- You should comment on what I wrote.
👉Noun Clause, Be verb-এর complement হিসেবে কাজ করে ।
যেমন:
- The reality is that he is an honest man.
- My idea is that she will never come.
👉Noun Clause, Transitive verb-এর complement হিসেবে কাজ করে ।
যেমন:
- I gave him what he expected.
- He asked me why I was waiting.
👉Noun Clause, Appositive- হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
যেমন:
- The news that he survived the plane crash made his family happy.
- The report that a tiger had been seen in the jungle terrified the people.
👉Noun Clause, Adjective complement কে অনুসরন করে।
যেমন:
- I am glad that you have passed the examination.
- She feels certain that she will come out first.
